Sacking the Super Bowl

Steve Almond, in his article "Sacking the Super Bowl", explained his decision to stop watching football. He detailed how the National Football League is a "legal monopoly" and that the players risk their lives suiting up for games on Sunday.  Steve's argument proved many good points but he is forgetting the emotional attachment that football fans have with their teams. Fans embrace the violence of the game and understand the risk involved as far as brain damage is concerned. The passion for the game is displayed every Sunday throughout the season by the fans and it brings people and communities together. The intensity is present whether you are at the stadium or in your living room, and that is why American Football is so popular. Football fans will not stop watching the game that they love just because of imminent injuries or money coming out of their pockets to pay for new team facilities.
